The entertainment industry was stunned when CBS announced in July that the liberal-leaning "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" would end in 2026.

Now, with just weeks left to go before the new year, The Late Show is running out of time. In the wake of the cancellation news over the summer, Stephen Colbert joked about being "available in June" for offers from Netflix and Amazon, but later said that he wanted to focus on getting to savor every day that was left on CBS and "land the plane."

After winning an Emmy, Stephen Colbert spoke about creating a “show about love.” In its homestretch, “The Late Show” is fulfilling that promise.

According to LateNighter.com, citing Nielsen Live+3 data for the week of December 14 to 20, The Late Show held a 9,000 viewer lead over Jimmy Kimmel Live! in total viewers. The Late Show averaged 2.34 million viewers (down four percent on the week prior) compared to Kimmel’s 2.33 million viewers (up seven percent on the week before).
