MANSFIELD - A two-alarm fire at a former church under construction on Stafford Road was controlled with the help of multiple surrounding area crews, officials said.

Firefighters battled an intense house fire in Dutchess County that required a second alarm and help from multiple departments. The blaze began in Wappingers Falls just after noon on Sunday, Jan. 4, when Hughsonville firefighters were dispatched to 218 Old Hopewell Rd.

The fire originated on the first floor along the rear wall of the structure. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Troop L fire marshal unit, but no criminal activity is suspected. Damage was estimated are more than $300,000.
