A powerful winter storm driven by a rapidly intensifying cyclone is sweeping east from the Plains, bringing heavy snow, ice and rain to much of the country
The winter weather this weekend caused travel problems during the busiest time of year. On Sunday, more than 10,000 flights were delayed nationwide, according to the flight tracking website FlightAware. On Monday, the disruption was less severe, with less than 500 flights delayed in the U.S., according to the site.
Authorities closed State Route 2 between Cedar Springs, 3.3 miles east of Newcomb’s Ranch, and State Route 138 on Christmas Eve, according to the California Department of Transportation.
The watch was in place for Fayette Ridges. "The Winter Storm Watch has been replaced. Please see the latest information from NWS Pittsburgh PA on this developing situation," adds the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service issued a report at 3:59 p.m. EST on Wednesday for snow until 7 p.m. EST for Mecosta, Isabella, Montcalm, Gratiot, Ionia, Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Calhoun and Jackson counties.
Forecasters are warning of even more frigid weather in the Midwest after a winter storm pummeled parts of that region as well as the Great Lakes and the Northeast this week.
On Tuesday at 9 p.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated winter storm warning valid from Wednesday 1 p.m. until Thursday 10 a.m. for Westmoreland Ridges and Fayette Ridges.
More than 116,000 customers were without power Monday morning as a winter storm brought high winds and snow, but the figure declined to 107,000 by 3 p.m.
