I bought 4 of these windows to replace 1957 single pane, iron frame, basement windows. The widows are double paned, without argon gas, but argon doesn't do much. Installed, they look beautiful, and they will be great for the next century. Beware when opening the package, because the removable window is ready to take out, and if your not careful, it can drop on the ground. Also, critics gig the window for its plastic lock and lack of a handle (to slide the window open), but don't worry. It locks great and the window opens and closes easily. I couldn't be happier (I bought 4, and even got a 15% discount). As a do it yourselfer, make sure you use the right tools:\nA saws all ($199) with a metal cutting blade (to cut out the metal frame).\nA mallet hammer and two chisels (one for close cuts, and one with a 3" flat blade, to even out the concrete).\nA high-speed concrete (hammer) drill, with a 1/4" masonry bit, to make holes for concrete screws.\nTapco concrete screws (1/4" x 2 1/4"), 4 per window.\nA small, 1 foot long level, to square the window.\nA thin black marker, to mark holes before drilling.\nYard work gloves (to protect your hand when chiseling). \nPlastic safety goggles (a splinter can change your life).\n\nThat's it, my friend!

My experience with this purchase...
Reviewed on www.homedepot.com·Phastphil
My experience with this purchase borders on unbelievable, here's what happened: When the product was marked 'not in stock' I thought I would call TAFCO to find another retailer or ask if a like new product would be coming soon to HD. June answered and told me she would get back to me, yah right!. In less than an hour she texted that they would be available to order the next morning. And they were!! Placed my order for 4 of them on Tuesday and they were delivered on Thursday. For me, the best online purchase ever. Arrived in great shape. This was for a basement retro fit into the metal frame of a tilt in window. I believe there is nothing available in a perfect fit, but my handyman was able to trim the flashing off (score and break/snap) and got them installed. Opens like a window should and looks a whole lot better than the builder crap. I confirm that to open you do have to pull on the lock as there is nothing else to grab on. Not a problem in my mind as we won't be opening these on a daily basis.

Good windows for around $100....
Reviewed on www.homedepot.com·Old Thor
Good windows for around $100. But there are no nailing slots in the flange, so if you’re installing them against a wooden-framed rough opening like I did, plan to drill a few oversized holes in the flange. I drilled two holes on each short side and three holes on each long side (10 screws to hold the window). Vinyl is soft, so drilling the holes is no big deal, just make them oversized (like 5/16” or 3/8”) and put your pan head screws or roofing nails in the middle so the vinyl can expand and contract. Oh, also, keep your rough opening tight, because the flange isn’t very big, maybe 1” wide. I installed 28 of these on my barn. I had all 28 windows shipped to my home, and only one arrived broken—they were packaged quite good in a lot of bubble wrap.

My husband and I are building a portable office on a camper trailer frame, and we needed windows that were both light weight and dual-pained. Expense was also a consideration, which made these Tafco windows the solution to our problem. The windows were easy to install, and with the J channel, they made installation of both the T1-11 siding and the corrugated metal siding easy to install as well. The windows slide amazingly smoothly and they seal well when closed; no cold winter breezes are going to get through these. I am impressed. The only thing I'm not so impressed with is the latch. It's fairly cheap, and I'm worried it will break. But it too works, so as long as it stays in one piece, it won't be a problem. We had the windows (three) shipped directly to us, and they all arrived in pristine condition, well packaged. All in all, I'd happily order these windows for other projects.

They say rough opening should be 32x22 they're not they're 33x23 with the flange the flange to be trimmed down it's just a plastic so when I have a 100-year-old block wall and I rough in the opening for 32x22 I had to take it all apart because they are really 33 by 23 with the flange the windows still 31 and 3/4 by 21 and 3/4 it's what they say isn't the right size so you know but they are great Windows easy to install. I also purchased the white polyurethane window door caulk is amazing stuffed r13 all the way around.. so just remember the windows are actually 21 and 3/4 by 31 and 3/4 but the flange is a half inch all the way around and it's only thin plastic easy to trim back I used to grinder or you can use an oscillating tool whatever is easier

Bought this window to replace an old basement window. The window is a nice sharp white and opens and closes pretty easily. The price was reasonable and window was easy to install. The window met my expectations, was great for the price and quickly delivered, well packaged with no damage. This is the second time I have bought the window. I bought it for a bathroom shower and have been very happy with both windows. The white looks very sharp with a gray tile window sill. I highly recommend the window and am happy with the product.

Very good value for the money. All measurements were precise. There is no flange on the slider sash for opening/closing the window and so must use fingernails on the edge of the sash frame to move it. Look closely at the advertised pic. Sash lock is very flimsy. I used these in my garage.

Bought three 24x24 side slider windows from the other big box store for a treehouse because that box store is in my town and they were $10 cheaper. Those windows were nearly impossible to open. Bought these Tafco windows, same size, to see if they were any better and what a difference. The packaging, quality, and operation were vastly better. Save yourself the headache and time and go with Tafco even though are $10 more.

Fit like a glove. Nice window for the price and smooth. Old window came with house 25 years ago and was a glass and metal pop out single pain, pain in the rear. But these fit like a glove so snug I left the flanges on and will install accordingly. I ordered one to test. Now I will order 2-4 more. Box was a bit beat up.

Bought 7 of these windows a month ago. Out of the 7, 4 were damaged. Cracked corners, broken plastic, crack in plastic on the sashes. Two of the windows could have been salvaged by asking TAFCO (manufacterer) for replacement sashes. I reached out to them with the receipt and pictures thinking they would send me replacements and I can easily install myself. Here is there useless response: \n\nThank you for your patience throughout this review. After carefully evaluating the claim, our team determined that if the windows arrived with damage, they should not have been installed. As outlined in our Product Inspection Procedure, all items must be fully inspected upon receipt. Any visible damage, defects, or operational concerns should be reported to TAFCO right away. This includes checking all components such as the frames, glass, hardware, and finishes, and documenting any issues with descriptions and supporting photos. Please note that the Limited Warranty does not cover issues that result from improper storage, handling, installation, or use. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and are here to assist with any questions you may have.
